Investigate the two types of sight defect- long-sightedness and short sightedness.

Find the following information:

  1. what causes the defect

Short sight is caused by light rays in front of the retina. The eye cant focus the light any furthur back which causes short sight. Long sightedness is the exact opposite where the person can not see clearly anything that is too close.

  1. the symptoms displayed

Short sighted people cant see objects from far away. The early it starts the worse it gets. People with long sigthed ness cant see close up which means the problem is detected early and is fixed straight away.

  1. propose what sort of lens may be used to correct each vision.

A concave lens is used to correct the vission of short sighted people while a convex is used for long sighted people

How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

The media can portray social justice issues accurately most of the time. But sometimes they arent so accurate. They can use different writing techniques like paraphraising in order to get the viewr to read the article.

  • Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?
  • This all depends on the social justice issue you are doing. Some issues are hard to find articles on because very little media sources have done stories on them. But if you choose an easy one it should tke you no time to find one. This is what happened to my group so we had to switch topics from abortion to neglect.

Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

No, they operate on their statistics and facts about a certain issue because it would be immoral for them to lie.

    1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.

    Describe what is a critique.

A type of essay or article which asks you to give an evaluation and analyse.

    2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

A critique usually has 4 parts:

    ·         An introduction (which directs the reader’s attention to the publication and your response to it)

    ·         A summary of the article

    ·         Your analysis or critical commentary on the original text

    ·         Your evaluation or conclusion

    3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

Yes when someone is writing a critique they can write positive things about the article. For example if the article is written too a very high standard someone can say so in their critique

    4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

1.The beijing olympics is one of the biggest events happening in todays society. many people look forward to going to the olympics and watching their heroes.

This article is all false. The only thing that they basically say that is true is that the olympics are in bejing. For example the big holes they are digging are traps for the athelits. which is clearly false

The whole article is bassically wrong and shuld not be taken seriously.

    2. Donkeys arent used for many things in the world today but basketball!

the article is also false because it donkeys arent used in that sort of manner. This article should also not be taken seriously.

    1. How well did your group work

My group worked okay but they could have worked a lot better at certain times.

    2. Would you work with the same group of students again? Why?

No, because most of them didn’t work as hard as they could have worked.

    3. How much effort did you put into this project?  What could you have done better?

I put a lot of effort in this project but i could have improved my communication skills.

    4. Do you think your final wikispace was your best work? Why?

The wikispace was good but it could have been a lot better if we were more organized with time and communication.

    5. What did you think of the project when you received it? Why?

I thought that this project was more art based then religious based but as we started getting into the project it got better and i realized that it had a lot to do  with religion.

    6. What do you think of the project now you have completed it? Why?

The project was pretty simple but if we had a bit more time and things were told to us before hand like when the project was actually due because they told us it was due at the end of the lesson on the actual lesson it wouldve been better.

    7. What did you like in the project? Why?

I like the way we could each make our own unique image using the computer.

    8. What did you not like in the project? Why?

I didnt like the way we were told things last minute.

    THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE

Research and gather information from the internet about the Hubble Space Telescope. Use the following questions as the basis for your journal entry:

    -         What was Hubble’s involvement in space research?

    -         What does the telescope do?

    -         Where can the telescope be found?

    -         What is Hubble’s law?

Edwin Hubble was a space astronomer which involves him in space research. He was also the inventor of the hubble telescope. Found 600km above the earth the telescope researches and allows people to see into deep space. People Have witnessed stars die out and discovered new planets thanks to this telescope. Hubbles law is the furthur away the galaxy is the faster it is moving.

    -         Walter Adams.

    -         Ralph Alpher.

    -         Robert Dicke.

    Walter adams:

Studied stellar spectra worked on solar spectroscopy. Was able to demonstrate that a spectra could be used to tell if the star was a white dwarf.

    Ralph Alpher:

Authorised his diserration on the big bang theory. His mathamatical formula became the theory of the origin of the universe.

    Robert Dicke;

contributed to advances in radar, atomic physics, quantum optics, gravity physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.

Recently NASA was successful in launching a space craft named Phoenix which landed on the surface of Mars.

You are to write a journal outlining why NASA would undertake such an experiment.

    -         What do you think the Phoenix will find?

    -         Do you think as a planet we should be researching other planets? Why/ why not?

    -         Any other comments.

Nasa would undertake an experiment like this because it gives the human race a better understanding of whats going on around them. As a planet we must research other planets because we might be able to find useful information like whether or not we can survive on certain planets or how old the universe is these facts can be foud out by researching. So nasa is going very good in its research.
